When Did You Decide You Couldn’t Do It?

do you trust me

At some point in your life I imagine you said to yourself, “I can’t do this, who am I kidding?” It might have been a year or a day ago.

I remember coaching a beautiful woman named Julie who couldn’t have children. It was devastating and consumed her life. While she believed she would never have kids, I knew if it was meant to be for her life, she would. If not, God had greater plans for her.

I challenged Julie to focus on what it was she wanted, not how it was delivered. While initially not open to adoption, I encouraged her to just take the first step and call an adoption agency. If it was meant to be it would. Fast forward a year and she was on a plane to meet her child. Today she has a beautiful son, adopted from Russia who is the love of her life. A year later she gave birth to her second son. Clearly Julie was meant to adopt her sweet boy before giving birth to her own. Why? Who knows. But it was part of life’s plan.

When things are tough, it’s easy to get discouraged. Sadly, our minds are programmed to tell us what we can’t do, don’t know how to do, don’t deserve and more. After much bullying we give in and tell ourselves that the dreams we have for our life are not to be.

If this has happened to you, I encourage you to instead see it this way:

I can have everything I want in life; all I have to do is take the first step.

1. Prioritize what it is you want.

2. Decide what actions you can take daily that will move you closer to your dream.

3. When hitting roadblocks, press through and be open and receptive to the direction your dream is trying to take you.

4. Follow through and never, never, never give up.

Anything worth having takes time, and if it were easy everyone would do it. It’s important to pursue what you want but to also enjoy the journey- which includes setbacks, learning opportunities, mistakes and lessons that you can learn from and pass on to others. So today, consider revisiting that dream, idea, or vision you had for your life. Remember that yes, you can do it and don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
